Interview With An Early Childhood Professional

Hello bloggers! I had a very interesting and enlightening interview with a Social Service/Family worker professional. I began my interview by stating  that I am doing some research on Advocacy in the early childhood education field. I'm interested in advocating for young/teen parents, currently some related issues to this topic are child neglect/abuse, which is directly related to uneducated, inexperienced, and stressed single young mothers. Some current issues that she currently encounters in her work is encouraging these young girls to stay in school and complete their education. Many of these young mothers drop out of school, which in turn makes them ineligible to receive childcare services; which is such a great start for these children who are enrolled in high quality childcare centers. My interview was very enlightening and gives me more momentum for beginning my advocacy efforts for teen mothers. Some other interest areas that I would like to focus on are; child abuse/neglect, and helping to keep these young girls in school. Also, I would like to help keep them focused, stress free, and informed and educated about the importance of early childhood education.

  1. I must agree that Advocating for Teen mothers is a great idea! I believe that since there is so many teen moms out there that when they become moms they usually drop out of school and have a hard time going back either because, they don't have the support that they need nor positive roll models that can motivate them.

  2. Teen moms are most likely to drop out of school if they are faced with no support from their families and friends.I really think that helping them and showing them that education is best for them and their children, is the right path to a successful future!!

  4. Tan, I think that this is such an important issue and I feel that being an advocate for a cause like this is only going to give these young mothers a better opportunity to realize that education is the key. But what about our young fathers? I did not hear you mention anything about advocating for our young fathers. Is that something you would consider?

    1. Hello Roberto, Within the body of my research I will touch on the subject of young fathers as well, because they are apart of the issue. But, my concern for the time being is advocating for young mothers who are primarily caring for these children more often than the fathers. Because they need someone to care about their plight.

  5. Tan education is very important, and young teenage mothers who get the proper support can continue their education and get a decent jobs. I happen to have a couple of teenage mothers in my class and they were fortunate to have a good support system they finished high school, going to college and have jobs. This is good topic because a lot of tennage mothers don't have or know all the support they can get to continue their education, so they can have a bright future for them and their children.

    1. Yes, Celeste your absouletly correct, a great support system is exactly what these young mothers need! All most people need is to believe in themselves and someone who believes in them too.
